I always liked
John Madden's "All-Madden Team" concept and Al McGuire's
similar recognition of NCAA basketball players who each have a quality,
which if combined into one person, would result in the ultimate team
member.
I have adapted
this concept for grassroots professionals and now announce the individuals
whose combined attributes represent the 2000 Grassroots Avatar! The
Grassroots Avatar is based on what my life experience, expertise,
and experience with numerous public affairs professionals has shown
are the necessary qualities of the "perfect" grassroots
leader. Some people and organizations appear twice, and there are
"ties" in certain categories.
Some of the following
