Education vs. Persuasion:

"The government relations profession prides itself on educating its advocates.  Why then don't our advocates enthusiastically respond?  Because the link between education and persuasion is weaker than you'd think.  There is much to persuasion beyond education." --Kelton Rhoads, PhD

"What People Are Saying About "105 Ways to Keep in Touch with Your Elected Officials All Year"

Relationships with legislators in the district are what paves the way for future high-volume grassroots communications. Here are a few of the comments from those who have taken advantage of our "105 Ways" resource.

"I use the booklet as a mid-summer reminder to my members to stay in front of their legislators all summer.  Our members encounter elected officials all summer through the rounds of barbecues, Rotary meetings, etc. This publication provides them with ways to leverage these opportunities."

Suzanne Goucher
Executive Director, Maine Association of Broadcasters

Revelations from the Roundtables - Innovate to Motivate PAC and Grassroots Interactive Discussion

My Innovate to Motivate seminar partners, Tony Kramer, Peter Kennerdell and I conducted our first PAC and grassroots Innovate to Motivate Roundtable discussions in August.  How did the participants rate the day? Our average score was 9.8 on a scale of 1-10. (And "10" is good, by the way!)

Not only was a good time had by all, with lots of laughs and banter, but also the following results came from the Roundtables:

"I learned to look at the big picture and work backward to achieve the 'big picture' goal.  Now I will look at the small things I can do to move my program forward.  I also plan to look at our communications plans and make our grassroots communications more specific to each audience."

Heidi Watzak, Darden Restaurants

The Challenges of Properly Executing a Key Contact Program

Key Contact programs begin with great fanfare, hope and expectations. Properly executed, they are one of the most efficacious ways to impact the political process. However, many Key Contact programs are simply faceless names in a database. How can something so right turn out so wrong? I believe that 90 percent of our results (or lack of them) are embedded in the execution of our Key Contact programs.  Click here to read more.

Beyond Fundraisers & Fly-ins -- New Grassroots Advocate Training Resource

If you ever found yourself wishing that your grassroots advocates/PAC members would stay in touch with their elected officials all year, TSG has a resource for you.

I have authored a new publication that will teach your advocates how they can connect with their lawmakers all year, not only when they need their vote. "105 Ways to Keep in Touch with Your Elected Officials All Year" contains over 100 legislative, social, campaign, political and general networking techniques that result in more active advocates.

Custom imprinting is available, as well as licensing opportunities and booklet text customization for your particular industry/profession. Click here to view a sample of the booklet as well as an order form . .

Fire Up Your PAC and Grassroots Presentations
"We rely on employees who volunteer for our PAC Leadership Committee throughout an 11-state service territory to recruit new PAC members. Amy and Vickie "fired-up" our Committee members through their insightful and entertaining workshop. More importantly, they incorporated "real-world" exercises to ensure that each of our attendees left with recruitment approaches tailored to their own area."

Larry Jones
- Manager of Public Affairs
American Electric Power
